Canvas Wraps Rock – Top 9 Reasons
Canvas art, often referred to as “canvas wraps” continue to grow more and more popular for wall décor choices in homes and offices. Why is it getting so popular? After selling my artwork for the first time years ago, it became clear why artists choose canvas as a medium for their visual work. I know I was blown away the first time I saw the product. It turns out that lovers of art also are fond of canvas wraps.
1. Canvas wraps pop off the wall.
With the thicker, image-wrapped edges, canvas literally pops off the wall and can arouse curiosity from many viewing angles. These canvas wraps are often associated with prestige, often compared to similar artwork hanging in the world’s finest museums. I have also noticed that my photographs tend to look “painted” even though they are printed, and people seem to like that “look.”
2. Canvas wraps are inexpensive.
It wasn’t always the case, but now there are dozens (if not hundreds) of companies that specifically provide canvas wraps at affordable prices. This makes it easy for artists like me to print their work and display them in an interesting way. Compared to traditional framing which includes custom-cut materials and substantial labor, canvas wraps are a bit easier to make.
3. Canvas wraps are light.
What I have found to be one of the biggest advantages of canvas art is that it is incredibly light. This makes hanging quite a bit easier, even if it’s oversized canvas art. No more gaping holes in your walls and sheet rock repair.
4. Canvas art is immune to distracting, harsh reflections.
Perhaps what I like the best about canvas, is that it’s surface does not reflect light. While this may seem trivial, I’ve seen wall art become nothing but a mirror, reflecting the outside light cast from windows on adjacent walls. Canvases look fantastic from any viewing angle, and can create stunning visuals throughout a room no matter where you’re standing.
5. Canvases can be displayed creatively.
Multiple canvas art panels can be arranged in different ways, creating stunning scenes. What’s even more eye-catching than a cool piece of art? Hanging multiple canvases to create an even more intriguing visual displays.
6. Canvas wraps can be huge. Really huge.
If you’re looking for really big art to make a HUGE first impression, there’s nothing better than oversized canvas art. Most canvas companies can create mounted canvas wraps that span 6 feet by 5 feet. This makes it an ideal solution for large empty wall spaces.
7. Canvas wraps are low maintenance.
In fact, canvas wraps are almost no maintenance. A rare stroke of the feather duster on the top might be in order from time to time, and that is about it.
8. Canvas art lasts and looks great for a long time.
Most canvas companies mention that their archival links are guaranteed to last 75-100 years, and even then they may only fade very slightly depending on how much sun exposure it gets throughout its life.
9. Canvases are durable.
Canvas is incredibly durable and I have often been surprised at how it can withstand a casual collision by children or passers by not paying attention. Just this weekend, I was moving a couch to my basement and scraped one of my canvas art pieces I have hanging in my house with a wooden leg. I was astounded to see that it didn’t even scratch and I simply wiped the mark it left away to look just like new. This incident, quite frankly, inspired me to write this blog article. It also is quite resistant to water damage. I was doing an art show one time when a huge rain storm hit the festival. My awning started to collect gallons of water when someone came by and pushed on the top of it from inside. Suddenly, a tidal wave of water came dumping down and splashed water on some of my art hanging closer to the entrance. I thought the piece was ruined. I got home and set it out. It dried and couldn’t tell anything happened.
