How High to Hang Pictures & Wall Art
Lucky for you, figuring out how high to hang your pictures and artwork is NOW ridiculously easy.
After reading gobs and gobs of information from art buyers, art galleries, other fellow artists, and the general public, I decided to create an easy to use picture height calculator. Just plug in a few measurements and it will determine the precise height to place your art pictures, customized specifically for your space.
Here's a few other tips to take into consideration when determining how high to hang pictures:
If you’re hanging pictures above furniture, make sure to leave at least 4 inches of clearance. Don’t go too high, otherwise the eye will focus on the area between the art and the furniture, and you certainly don’t want that.
You may want to consider hanging art slightly lower in a dining room, since you are sitting down mostly when you are viewing it. Also, you may want to hang wall art a bit lower in children’s rooms as well, especially if they’re into art like I was as a kid. They’ll appreciate it!
- If you’re hanging multiple pieces vertically, always treat them as one piece, including the space between. So if you have three 12-inch pieces with two gaps of two inches, your total height of the artwork would be forty inches (36+2+2). Make sure to plug that measurement into the calculator as the size of the piece.
